Speaking of the actress’ birth family, the public is only partially aware of her mother Melinda who has been revealed to be a Hungarian citizen. Melinda had Mackenzie with an unidentified Canadian father in the US. It’s true that This Is Us premiered in September 2016 when Mackenzie was just over 9 years old but based on how TV series are produced, casting and shooting must surely have taken place when she was much younger. When the show finally aired, fans got a glimpse of the actress as she portrayed the role of a younger Kate Emily Pearson – one of the main characters of the show who deeply resonated with fans.

Mackenzie’s role as Kate depicts her as an obese young girl who has self-esteem issues which she considers a by-product of her body type and her strained relationship with her mother Rebecca, who appears to blame Kate for the death of her husband, and Kate’s father Jack after he ran into a burning building to rescue Kate’s dog. He later died from the smoke he inhaled in his quest to rescue Kate’s canine pet.

It would appear that Mackenzie Hancsicsak is a valued cast member of This Is Us because the showrunners have found a way to keep her on the show despite the inevitable changes that her body has gone through. She has been actively involved in all six seasons of the show through flashback scenes where she has played an 8, 10, 11, and 13-year-old Kate Pearson.

Mackenzie has also formed a special bond with actors Parker Bates and Lonni Chavis. The bond stems primarily from the amount of time they have spent together on the show. It must be noted that the aforementioned actors played the roles of Kevin and Randall, Kate’s brothers on the show. Together, they form the big three and the chemistry between all three seems to have transcended the silver screen.
