Upon the completion of his Master’s degree, Ravenel went ahead to start up a real estate development company named Ravenel Development Corporation in 1992. He handled the company for some years until 2006 when he got elected to the office of State Treasurer for the state of South Carolina.
During his tenure as the State Treasurer, he became the chairman of the State Board of Financial Institutions for the State of South Carolina, a member of The State of South Carolina Retirement system, and a member of The Budget and Control Board for the State of South Carolina.
He was an Independent candidate for the United States Senate in the 2014 election in South Carolina and was a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in the 2004 primary election.

Thomas Ravenel was accused of sexual assault and battery
Ashley Perkins, a Florida-based real estate agent, claimed in April 2018 that Ravenel sexually abused her mother, Debbie Holloway Perkins. The alleged incident happened after they met on the dating app Tinder in December 2015. Perkins claims Ravenel “stuck his penis in her face” and held her arms back while sticking his fingers inside her vagina and anus, according to her mother.
Perkins stated that she did not witness the battery, but her mother appeared “very withdrawn” before confiding in her. According to Perkins, her mother is unable to discuss the case publicly because of a non-disclosure agreement negotiated by attorney Gloria Allred as part of an alleged $200,000 settlement deal with Ravenel. Perkins, who claims to be a witness to the mediation process between her mother and Ravenel, was not bound by such an agreement and thus was free to publicly disclose the case’s details.
Ravenel’s attorney, Richard P. Terbrusch, denied Perkins’s allegations, saying his client enjoys a certain degree of fame and this has unfortunately exposed him to become a target for individuals with dubious motivations.
In May 2018, a second accuser emerged. This time, it was Dawn Ledwell who according to information gathered was a former nanny for Ravenel’s children. The nanny came forward with new allegations of sexual battery against Ravenel. The nanny who was a close friend of Kathryn Dennis (Ravenel’s ex-girlfriend), claims Ravenel assaulted her after a night out with his friends in January 2015. She cited that on the day of the incident, she went upstairs to get her jacket where she had kept her car key but along the line got corralled into the master bedroom by Thomas, and he shut the door behind me.
By the time she turned around, he had his pants dropped, and was not wearing underwear. He blocked the door and she was mortified, embarrassed, and scared.
In connection to an assault on Ledwell, Ravenel pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and battery on September 11, 2019. He won’t go to jail but was asked to pay a fine of $500. The politician also agreed to donate $80,000 in her honor to a nonprofit organization that supports victims of sexual assault.

Many fans of the Southern Charm reality show have wondered why Thomas Ravenel left the show. In 2018, Bravo announced that Thomas Ravenel would not be joining the cast of Southern Charm following the fact that he was charged with assault and battery.
The politician had also taken to his social media page (Twitter) to announce that he was leaving the show. He had claimed that the show took advantage of him.

Thomas Ravenel once dated Ashley Jacob but their relationship was short-lived as they broke up with Thomas accusing Ashley of cheating on him. He moved on and started a relationship with Kathryn Calhoun Dennis, a cast member on Southern Charm whom he was said to have dated before.
Thomas and Kathryn have two children: Kensington Calhoun, a girl, and Saint Julien Rembert, a boy. Sadly, their relationship ended, and they got into a battle for the custody of the children they both share.
Kathryn lost full custody of the children in 2016 after testing positive for marijuana. However, when Thomas was arrested and charged with assault and battery in the second degree, she filed for primary custody of the children in 2018. In 2019, Kathryn and Thomas were granted joint custody of their children although he remains the primary custodian.
Thomas moved past his failed relationship with Kathryn and began dating Heather Mascoe, a registered nurse in Charleston who had two children from another relationship. Ravenel has been in an on-again, off-again relationship with Heather. The politician is said to have fought to keep Heather’s pregnancy a secret, claiming that they aren’t together but are really good friends.
Months after the denial of his relationship with Heather, the Daily Mail reported that Thomas was happily engaged to Heather and had no plans to sign a prenup with her. On June 29, 2020, Thomas and Heather welcomed their son Jonathan into the world.
He was born by C-section on June 29, 7lbs 4oz and 20.25 inches long, Thomas told the Daily Mail. Unfortunately, we did not get to hear about their wedding as Thomas and Heather called off their engagement after a year. They still communicate with each other and are said to be on good terms.
