Every other day, over 100 people die from gun violence in America, and about three hundred thousand more die from gunshot-related wounds yearly. On January 26, 2021, Texas-based rapper, Martell Lord “Kardone” DeRouen became part of this statistic after being fatally shot by his girlfriend Sasha Skare during a lovers’ spat.
Sasha is a 24-year old American rapper who is being held for the cold-blooded murder of her rapper boyfriend in his La Cantera apartment in January 2021. Since the shooting, the incident has generated so much buzz and news time, mostly because the late rapper was a distant cousin of American singer, Beyoncé. The suspect has been in custody since then, with a bond of over $100 000 dollars put up for her bail.
Much of Sasha Skare’s real background details remain unknown, but she is from Texas in the United States
Sasha Skare was born sometime in the year 2000, to unnamed parents in Bexar County in San Antonio, Texas. As previously stated, there is no verified information about her parents, their identities, and occupations. It also isn’t clear whether she has any siblings or not. What is pretty clear, however, is that she is a native of Texas and of African-American ancestry.
When she was 17, she moved in with her then, now late, boyfriend Andrew Jyaire Bass and his mother, Misty Renee. It seemed like she had nowhere to stay, alluding to the fact that she may very well have been an orphan.
Sasha Skare attended an undisclosed local public school in San Antonio, but that was where her educational pursuits ended. Apparently, the Texan rapper chose to venture fully into the hip-hop music genre and decided not to pursue a college education.
How Sasha Skare’s face got burned
An old mugshot of the Texan native showed her face looking scarred and badly discolored as a result of fire burns. Some further investigation showed that she obtained the scar sometime in 2020 after she and a friend had been standing too close to an exploding petrol tanker.
Some other reporters have questioned the legitimacy of the burn scars, and recent pictures have shown Sasha’s facial skin looking completely unscarred and unburned. It isn’t clear whether she faked them or not, but investigations are already ongoing as the suspect is in custody. Meanwhile, there is only one picture of Sasha’s scarred face on the internet at the moment.
Before her fallout with the Law, Sasha Skare was an aspiring rapper
When she was only 18 years old, Sasha began singing and rapping. The following year in 2019, she dropped her debut album titled ‘Hyer Quality, Vol. 1’ on Spotify. The album consisted of eight tracks namely Beyond, Time Travel, In the Air, Vi(s)ion, 4 the Love of Music, In My Head, Tell Me (La la la), and Distance. In April 2020, Sasha dropped another single titled Zoom, which was produced by Kardone.
Around this time they were seriously dating, and he assisted in the production and mixing of the album. That same year, she also appeared in the second episode of the talk show White Noise, and the interview was uploaded to YouTube on December 18, 2020.
Sadly, Sasha never got a chance to release more music before her crimes caught up with her.
How Sasha Skare became a murder suspect
Currently, the rapper cum singer is facing charges for the murder of Martell DeRouen, who happened to be her boyfriend at the time of his death. She was arrested on the 6th of February, nearly a month after she initially escaped from the scene of the crime, which she was believed to have committed.
Witnesses have come forward, saying that Skare and DeRouen had a loud argument moments before the fatal shooting. Apparently, Kardone pushed her out of his apartment, which Sasha also lived in at the time, and slammed the door shut. Another witness confirmed that they heard the defendant hitting on the door before a gunshot rang out.
Apparently, Sasha Skare shot her boyfriend through the door, and then fled, but not before dialing 911. Video footage of Sasha walking the apartment hallways, with a phone in her hand and a gun in the other, was released, and this seemingly confirmed that she was the one who took the shot.
According to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, Skare was charged for murder after the police made a welfare stop check at the ‘The Towers’ apartment inside the La Cantera Parkway on January 22, 2020. If found guilty, Skare could face anywhere between 5 to 99 years in prison, along with a $100,000 fine.
This is not the first time that she has been on the utterly wrong side of the law. In 2019, Skare was involved in a shooting incident that left her boyfriend at the time, dead. Skare and her then-boyfriend, Andrew Bass, planned to rob a drug dealer. The ill-fated robbery ended up leading to the death of Bass, while seriously wounding the other man.
During the initial questioning, Skare told the police officers that Bass was the mastermind behind the deal, but later on, investigations showed that Skare had known the dealer for years and was the one who reached out to him to fix the meeting.
She was later arrested on December 12, 2019, in Converse, Texas, earning her the top spot on the Marshals’ ‘Most Wanted’ list in 2019. After being checked into the Bexar County Jail, she was charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, but was later bailed out on January 6, 2020. She now faces first-degree felony charges for murder in addition to her previous charges.

Skare was in a romantic relationship with rapper Martell Lord DeRouen before the unfortunate incident
Sasha met the San Antonio-based rapper online, but what we don’t know is which social media platform it was. According to Kardone’s ex-wife, Joia, who the late rapper remained close friends with even after their separation, Sasha and Kardone finally met in person after she took part in some video shoots for Kardone’s mixtape, Trunk Bang. Kardone took an interest in her because of her musical background and offered to help her out.
They soon began dating, and before long, she had moved into his luxury apartment at The Towers where she lived until the night of the shooting.
Since her arrest in February 2021, on the 6th, Skare has remained in the Bexar County Jail with her bail impossibly set at $125,000. The case is currently being handled by the family violence division.
